Ray joined Venrock in 1988 and after more than 20 years and over 40 investments, his passion for building companies continues. His venture capital career has its roots at Yankee Atomic Electric as a nuclear engineer, at Sun Microsystems and with two failed startups. An engineer at heart with a keen insight into product markets, Ray loves to tinker with technology. In addition to venture capital, he serves on the Board of Trustees of the Texas A&M Foundation, where he chairs the investment committee. Ray also serves on the Visiting Committee of the MIT Nuclear Science and Engineering Department and on the board of directors of NVCA. Ray currently serves on the board of Check Point Software, an alumni investment. “For me it’s all about how what I do that positively impacts the world every day. Being a technologist, I’ve been lucky to participate in building the commercial Internet with security, advertising and infrastructure. My goal in energy is developing new sources of electricity. Great companies result from great technology built by great people.” “I have been working with Ray for over a decade now. Both in Check Point and at Imperva, Ray has been an invaluable source of support. His deep understanding of the security market and broad perspective of the entrepreneurial challenges of building a company has always been an assuring source of advice. In short - Ray gets it.” "Ray is all about the company. He is a true strategic investor who understands the vital relationships necessary to build a work-class enterprise. He brings value to the entire chain, including our people, our end-users, our partners, our technology and product. He also knows the sector extremely well and he has helped create several successful, security enterprises. In all the best ways, Ray knows how to build a company." |
