Mike joined Venrock in 2000 as served as a Partner until 2014. An active venture capital investor for over thirty years, he currently serves as a consultant and advisor to Venrock.
During his years as a Partner, Mike was responsible for investments in collegeboard.com (acquired by The College Board), Fogdog (acquired by GSI), MediaMetrix (acquired by ComScore), Message One (acquired by Dell), Niku Corp. (acquired by CA), Optinuity (acquired by CA), Performance Retail (acquired by Dresser Industries), Semtek (acquired by Verifone), Spotlight/Profitlogic (acquired by Oracle), Taleo (NASDAQ: TLEO, acquired by Oracle) and USInternetworking (acquired by AT&T). He currently serves on the board of IP Commerce.
Prior to Venrock, Mike spent eleven years with Morgan Stanley & Co, where he was the Managing Director responsible for the firm’s investment banking activities with emerging growth and technology companies, and fifteen years with J.H. Whitney & Co. where he served as Managing Partner of the firm. During his years with Whitney he was responsible for investments in Sungard Data Systems (NYSE:SDS prior to going private in 2005), Filene’s Basement, Homestore (NASDAQ:HOMS), The North Face (NASDAQ:TNFI), and Pegasus Systems (NASDAQ:PGTV). His extensive background in finance and investing provides entrepreneurs in enterprise software, financial services and digital media with unique insights into managing and financing rapidly growing businesses. He was recognized several times on the Forbes Midas list and also served as a director of the National Venture Capital Association.
Mike received his B.A., in History, from Yale College and his M.B.A. from Harvard Business School.
